PSU: Goals For Building The Kingdom

Jesus answered, “The most important is...: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these.”  - Mark 12: 29-31

Where do you turn to improve in effectiveness? Whose methods can you trust to get the job done?

Recently, the Penn State campus staff addressed these questions as they reevaluated their goals for the upcoming school year. Desiring to have an impact on campus and train up disciple-makers who are passionate about Jesus and spreading His gospel, the team decided to go back to the two most important commandments.

Jesus tell us that the most important commandments to obey are to love the Lord with all our hearts, souls, minds, and strength, and to love others as we love ourselves. (Mark 12: 30-31) What a perfect solution! Above any other method or system, the way to grow and train up people to pursue Christ is to obey His commandments. So the Penn State staff decided upon three goals: Love God with all heart, soul, mind and strength; love others through grace; and be professional.

There are different methods and practical steps the staff plan to take in order to accomplish these God-honoring goals. In order to love God with all their hearts, souls, minds, and strength, the team has come up with such steps to incorporate prayer in every aspect of ministry, ask themselves how they can help people love God more, and the team is committed to personal daily times in the Word. Through these and other measures, the team is cultivating a dependent reliance and love for the Lord and growing in pointing others to Him.

The third goal, “Be Professional”, though not directly quoted in Scripture, was created in order to honor the Lord and represent Him well as His ambassadors in Christ. This entails paying attention to different details that are involved in every day ministry life. Such methods like “an agenda will be communicated prior to team meetings” and “make a calender for event to-do's” will help make team meetings and campus events more excellent in order to serve everyone involved. It is another way the Penn State team is striving to serve the Lord in every area of their lives!

DiscipleMakers Staff are committed to serving the Lord and having an impact on campus, and they do not need complicated goals to achieve this. They simply need to obey Jesus, and learn to love the Lord and others in a way that radically changes lives and builds God's Kingdom!
