Taste and See that the LORD is Good (Feb 08)

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.  2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)

Imagine being a senior in high school, just beginning the laborious process of selecting a college.  After much searching and careful thought, you choose to attend a school with a DiscipleMakers ministry, because of its reputation for giving students a strong Bible education, a solid Scriptural world view, and the campus context to apply it.

Because we consider it crucial to give students every opportunity to grow in their understanding of Scripture and ability to handle it correctly, training Bible Studies are being implemented on campuses all over Pennsylvania.  In addition to this,  only several weeks ago, DiscipleMakers Penn State Staff members Joel Martin, Michael McManigal, and Brian Seay led a training seminar designed to give students both the tools and the practice to read, understand, and apply the Word.

Nearly sixty students responded to this opportunity, even several student leaders from other campus Christian groups! Using 1 John 1 as a focus passage, these three men taught then modeled how to study the Bible.  Students then divided into small groups where they discussed and practiced what they had just learned.

Staff member Joel Martin commented, “Our goal was to get students into the Word, and have them 'taste and see that the LORD is good' (Psalm 34:8).”  The results?  “Several students joined the DiscipleMakers training studies on campus,” Joel recalled.  “A number of unbelievers came and heard the gospel for the first time.  It was exciting to see students beginning to know God in His Word.”

Many of these students are leading Bible Studies on campus now, and will quickly  be able to implement these tools in their own study and the teaching of others.  As a result, the fruit that God will produce through the eagerness and labor of these students will multiply a hundred-fold —far beyond what we can see.
