Testimony

Growing up in the heart of Lancaster County, a fairly conservative place to live, my life was characterized by high grades, a hunger for success, and a mediocre Christianity.  Despite a wealth of Scriptural knowledge and my extensive “spiritual resume,” I graduated from high school with a fairly uninspired vision for my life and a fairly high view of myself.  I headed off to the prestigious Lafayette College, determined to make friends, the Dean’s list, and a name for myself.

Beginning my freshman year and continuing throughout my time at Lafayette, the LORD began to dramatically change my view of what it means to be Jesus’ disciple. As I started to let people into my life and be vulnerable, several key women in the fellowship and the DiscipleMakers ministry challenged my view of myself and my need for the gospel.  First the first time, I realized that I was not this “put-together Christian” who could just rest on my perceived spiritual and academic accomplishments.  In fact, I was a big sinner with big issues.  But as the LORD started to show me my sinfulness, these same women would point me to the Scriptures and the great hope that we have in Jesus Christ.

During the last four years at Lafayette, I began to understand the radical call of Jesus when he says to follow him.  He desires every area of my life to come under His authority as King.  In response to this, I made mental plans to join an inner city ministry after graduation, working with the socially broken and impoverished.  However, as I began to invest more heavily in girls at Lafayette outside of my “Christian circle,” especially during my senior year, I started to see how I didn’t have to travel to the inner city to find people desperate for hope.  It's just that rather than being slaves to drugs and poverty, these girls were captive to relationships, grades, and self-image.

I joined the ministry of DiscipleMakers fulltime upon graduation, excited by the ministry's uncompromising vision, its commitment to the Scriptures, and the Staff's care for one another.  I am excited to work with a team of people who passionately desire to see college students transformed into committed ambassadors of Jesus Christ.
